Studies show that a person is continuously sending messages about what he is thinking and feeling about a particular thing even if he is not speaking. This shows that the body language speaks more than the words. Verbal words contribute to only very small percent compared to non verbal and what people see. Non verbal refers to body language. How well one carries himself matters a lot in any public gathering or conference. Though it is non verbal, it speaks about a person. Even if the communication is excellent and the body language is poor then the whole show is spoiled. So it is always mandatory to be aware of some body language tips for better results and also to know the body language pits in order to avoid them. The tips are to be kept in mind and avoid the pits during a business gathering. Some of the body language tips and pits are as follows: Eye Contact: This is most important as it is the exclusive way to communicate with the other. One must keep an eye contact with the other to give an impression that you are giving the person some importance. If you fail to keep eye contact, it indirectly says that either you are nervous or at fault. Also eye contact must be kept with everyone whoever is listening to your talk. Do not focus on a single person for a long time as it would create a negative picture that you are aggressive and staring at the other. Facial Expressions: Always have a smile on your face as it sends a positive message to all but not a fake one. It also shows that you are confident about what you are speaking. Do not keep smiling constantly at a person which again will send a wrong message. Keep your face calm and pleasant. Try spending sometime in front of the mirror to evaluate your facial expressions while addressing a gathering so that you can correct yourself. Every facial expression has its own meaning so be careful not to give wrong impressions. Standing Posture: When you stand to address a gathering, stand straight. Do not hunch or put your belly out. Keep your shoulders back and your neck straight. Stand in a comfort and pleasing posture. Do not keep your hands in the pocket as it shows disrespect to others. Also do not fold your hands which is a mistake often done by any. Be polite and generous. Do not keep fidgeting with your fingers. Controlling your hand movements is actually a toughest job. Be conscious of where your hands are. Do not keep your hands glued to your sides. Stay relaxed. Sitting posture: Though you are not addressing the gathering, body language is equally important for the audience as well.
